We’re offering the chance to win two nights at the Scarlet Hotel on Cornwall’s rugged coast, plus a spa treatment for each guest

The Scarlet Hotel overlooks Mawgan Porth beach, where Atlantic breakers roll in over the sands, providing excellent surfing and a tranquil soundtrack for sunbathers and strollers alike. Set between Newquay and Padstow, the hotel’s location is as appealing as its eco credentials. The cliffside property uses solar panels and biomass boilers, and harvests and recycles rainwater, sustainable features which are complemented by the smart design that brings the outdoors in using plenty of glass and timber.

The prizewinner and a guest will stay in an open-plan Just Right room with sea views, breakfast and dinner provided, and also receive a Scarlet Journey spa package. This includes a combination of meditation, massage and Ayurvedic treatments personally tailored to each guest, as well as the use of the spa’s ultra-relaxing spaces (our favourite is the clifftop hot tub).

Breakfast and dinner are served in a glass-fronted restaurant that overlooks the beach, and the kitchen works with local farmers and fishermen to source seasonal ingredients. Infused with contemporary European flavours, culinary treats include Cornish sausage or fresh muffins in the morning, and crab and sweetcorn chowder, or asparagus, pea and goat’s cheese soufflé by night.
