‘Jude’ is an ambitious new piece of theatre loosely based on Thomas Hardy’s final novel ‘Jude the Obscure’. In his reimagined version, writer Howard Brenton has turned Jude into Judith, a self-taught Syrian refugee whose lifelong ambition is to to study at Oxford University. About to be let go from her job as a cleaner, Judith’s employer notices here intellectual prowess – and she knows talent when she sees it. She will stop at nothing to achieve her dream.
