The outward-facing microphone works to detect external sound, which is then countered with an equal anti-noise to cancel it out.

No problem, thanks to the Transparency mode, which allows you to talk to the people around you without distraction. Just press the Force sensor on the stem of the AirPods Pro to switch from Active Noise Cancellation to Transparency mode. The Force sensor also lets you control music and calls for quick reaction.
