Hi,
If you want a new bike for yourself, or a bike for the kids, but don't want to spend too much, the bikes at Sports Direct are worth a look. There's some good deals on Muddy Fox bikes up to 40% off the RRP.
Standard delivery is £4.99
Wow thats a great deal, 40% off and that’s not all that will be off if you buy one there will be more ‘pounds off’ through the exercise!
This is a really good deal at ( up to 40% off ) that i might buy
Thanks so much for sharing
Its a CON. These bikes were cheaper before the lockdown. They put all the prices up and because they own the brand they can set the rrp. Wait till after lockdown and you will save £20 - £30 on the current prices.
Prices will of course go up and down according to demand. I take your point that Sports Direct own the Muddybox brand, but ultimately if you're buying a bike at a reasonable price, it's not a con, no matter what the RRP is. It's what you actually pay that matters, and these bikes are good value.
Can't see any good deals there, in fact about 4 months ago the prices of some of these bikes were about 50% lower and more recently have been slightly lower. You can get better bikes for less at Halfords plus you get local support, they will setup them up for you and give you a 6 week service too. Admittedly in the past there were some fantastic deals at sports direct for bikes but I've not seen any there in recent times. Bikes tend to be getting more expensive. Parkers of Bolton are also getting much more expensive. They had an ebike for £450 but now its up to £699 plus a few others have hugely increased in price. Maybe delivery costs have increased or maybe they realise new stock is going to cost a lot more to replace old stock.

Hi BonzoBanana
Please provide some specific examples to back up that claim! If it's true the average discount to the MRSP would need to have been around 67%. I think that's unlikely.
Johnny It's actually surprising difficult to prove because it's hard to find a way of showing when prices increased so significantly but as one example here is a bike that was £220 but is now £350 on the sports direct site. That was the deal on hotukdeals and if you click on the link it should go to the current price of £350.

As you can see a significant difference. Always worth pointing out as stock gets older bikes normally decrease in value not increase. This is an old stock model dating back to something like 2015 so at this point it is about 5-6 years old as 2015 models come out in late 2014. They wouldn't even make a model like that now it would be either 27.5" or 29" wheels not 26" as it actually features some reasonable components. Also I remember people buying this when sports direct had a 20% off code so it took it down to about £180 close to half the current price.
When I say 50% lower I meant at the time a huge number of their bikes were claiming to be 50% off or less compared to their claimed full price, those banners were all over the pages for many bikes so it was a 50% saving however when the 20% off code was available I guess it was 50% off even their current price for that bike almost.
Aluminium becomes more brittle with age, it can self-harden even if not used so for such old stock to be hiked in price seems a bit ridiculous to me. The spec is well out of date, the frame is 5-6 years in on its expected 7-10 year lifespan admittedly as its not used I'm sure the reduction in strength is small but still there. At this point I would think the bike would be £180 officially not £350.
More people are buying bikes now especially to commute to work avoiding public transport this promotion seems really poor and I'm not one of those people with an agenda against Mike Ashley I'm just making the point that prices for many of these bikes have been far lower.
I'd also point out I have a Muddyfox Race200 bike so I'm not biased against the Muddyfox brand.
BonzoBanana So in the winter they were up to 50% off and in the spring when there's a lot more demand they are up to 40% off (or thereabouts). Can't blame them for that.
Johnny No the price I linked to has been the same for about 2 years approx I think. In fact that offer page dates back to May 2018 and it remained at that price until sometime early this year. This may be one of those situations that when they get close to running out of stock they up the price but even in peak season it was £220. The point is its a very old stock bike now.
The bike above cost me about £140 by the way with a claimed normal price of either £399 or £499. It has a mainly Claris groupset. I think they had a CF road bike available for £499 too down from £1400. There were some great offers on the site previously. I'm just making the point despite many of these bikes being old stock and many years old prices have actually increased. It's very strange pricing to say the least.
