What is Evans Clothing?
Evans is an international UK-based clothing retailer catering mainly to plus size women. It is founded in 1930 by the manufacturer Jack Green. After 40 years as a limited company, it was acquired by the Burton Group, now known as Arcadia Group and is now owned by Richard Willcox. Just after the company expanded to more than 77 branches nationwide, they launched their mail order purchases, and in 1988 became the market leader for women's wear above a UK size 14.Their first brochure was featured in Good Housekeeping and Prima Magazine, consisting of just 12 pages in 1994. While in 1997, they launched SeVen, a more fashion-led label for the younger customers and also became the first Arcadia brand to start selling online.
Throughout the years, Evans has launched collaborations with well-known celebrities like the 1647 range exclusively designed for Evans by Helen Teague and her comedian partner Dawn French. In 2007, Crystal Renn became the official face of Evans, featuring in the first TV advertising campaign and all in-store merchandising. While in 2009, ndie rock band the Gossip launched the Beth Ditto at Evans collection, also exclusive to the retailer. Their Swan Range introduced by the British couture label Clements Ribeiro has proved so popular that even Adele wore a dress at a gig in Canada and was reported to have bought the whole range.
