To be honest the walkie talkies I had 30 years back as a kid were better. These say they have a range of 3km but I struggle with from my back garden to the front driveway.
My my old ones as a kid used to pick up the mini cabs and sometimes Emergency services

Mine arrived today. For the money they are great my boy loves them. we tested how far they worked and they are not 3km but I recon about half a mile to the next housing estate along from ours.. I would imagine 3km would probably be line of sight.
