Dennab ive struggled to get some but when i do they have upped the price a lot, this is a bargain

Brr, don't like cold water. Also read about how the eco washing machines wash in cold water and washing out the yucky oil and sweat residue in duvet covers causing them to smell and damage the fibers sooner, never tried though. Dennab

Regarding the prices - mum has a practice, I haven't ordered any supplies for a couple months (last before any coronavirus news, at the end of December), wanted to top up because nurses wrote a note they are running low, the usual proces for gloves were between 2.10-3.15 a box of 100 PCs, now they are, from the same suppliers, at £5 a box of 100, after a time when they were not available at all, good we had supplies. Similarly with alcohol, be it for medical skin disinfecting or surface disinfecting, everything went up by at least 30%, I find it also much more confusing now to find the correct product as there are many products claiming percentages i have not seen before that are lower than what we would always use while the price appears "reasonable".

Prices - I'm talking about products for the consumer market which I think you will find is what 99% of the members on here are interested in! I have a 5L bottle of isopropyl alcohol that cost under 20 quid before everything kicked off and know how much I could sell it for because the prices of that sort of stuff are still ridiculously high, yes.

The only downside of using cold water might be the unpleasant sensation that may lead to distraction and not washing the hands properly. Hot water is known to help dissolve fats, and therefore fats will dissolve better in hot soapy water. Dennab

Of course I'm talking about the consumer market as well - we do not use nearly as much to buy in bulk or get any discounts on quantity, I calculated to do a yearly supply before to save 5%, the postage cost cancelled out the savings. Dennab

The temperature of water does not change the effectiveness of hand washing. The time does and whether you use soap or not does. It's all online if you want to read about it.

Hot water does indeed desolve fat but at that temperature, would also feel like it's dissolving your skin.

Yeah... Well, that looks like an appropriate price for Superdrug, it won't last long with the amount you need to use if you want to use it effectively. If you want to buy a 500ml bottle the price is 30% more than it used to be.

Have you ever tried to wash dishes in cold water? There is a reason they are washed in hot water and not cold. Try it. Dennab

It works the same, it will have glycerine, just like the gels do, as long as it's branded "hand sanitiser". If you wash surfaces with it, everything will be sticky like hell.

You must not be up to speed Dennab you can put hand sanitiser in whatever you want as long as it's airtight and won't cross contaminate. This is used either in the dosing devices or exactly in spray bottles, stores have it in spray bottles at the front, just spray on your hands and rub as gel hand sanitiser. I've seen it everywhere, probably cheaper too

However there are some who should be sprayed in the face for coming too close to me and without a mask lol Dennab

You've highlighted a great case scenario where spray bottles are not suitable for hand sanistiser. How do you apply it? You pick up the bottle and touch the trigger. What does the next person do? Think about it.

Nope, the sprays for disinfecting surfaces do not have glycerine, the problem is the HAND sanitizer liquids are common and cheaper than the surface disinfectants, they have small stands at the entrance that has a spray bottle with hand sanitiser, it's not bad at all, you pick it up, spray it onto your other hand and correctly rub your hands together - do you know what happens? You hands have just been sanitised, magic. What does the next person do? Picks up the bottle, sprays on one hand, rubs the liquid on both hands and done, sanitised! Think about it. Dennab

I've seen security guards with the spray bottle chasing entering shoppers to spray on their hands, either gloved or not, and if you put the HAND sanitiser on a surface that is not skin, it will become sticky as the liquid dries because it contains glycerin, a supposedly helpful ingredient to moisturise your hands after you just dried them up with alcohol. Also hey, less alcohol, more glycerin, same volume, but we just saved on other ingredients that are more pricey than glycerin.

If you think all places have non-touching hand sanitiser dispensers then you are very wrong... Even our local pharmacy uses the same liquid hand sanitiser in a windex spray bottle as they sell. They even sell it cheaper if you bring your own container. Dennab

cookiewithcarro Are you telling me that stuff in a spray bottle on a table at the front of the queue for Tesco is hand sanitiser? If it is, not one person in the queue I was in used it for that purpose. Every single person just wiped their trolley handle with it, as did I and there was no sticky residue at all. I wiped my hands with alcohol hand gel. I know what glycerine is. They use it in smoke machines too because it creates a thick steam / smoke when heated up.

That depends on the location, no stickiness would indicate it was correctly used as surface disinfectant, I saw staff cleaners disinfecting the trolley handles for the customers in line so no self service on this part, my dad took the trolley and I went through without, right in front of the entrance was a separate "station" with a spray bottle and a sort of sign outlining the current distancing rules, hand sanitising/gloves and what they provide for staff - everyone was directed to use it by the security guy who nodded whether you can go or not. Another pharmacy literally just had a small table with a small bottle of hand sanitiser gel on it...
