I picked up this Johnnie Walker Black Label cocktail kit to have an easy option for whisky drinks at home, and it has been a very straightforward way to make simple cocktails. The 70 cl bottle of Black Label is the same familiar 12 year old blend, with soft smoke, vanilla, a touch of dried fruit and a gentle peppery finish that works nicely both neat and in mixed drinks. The included jigger and stirrer feel basic but solid, and are accurate enough for measuring out simple recipes like a whisky highball or old fashioned style serve.
I like that everything comes together in one box, which makes it feel ready to gift and also keeps all the pieces in one place in my cupboard. It does not include bitters, soda or other ingredients, so you still need a few extras to make proper cocktails, but as a starter set it makes sense. For me the appeal is less about fancy accessories and more about having a reliable bottle of whisky with a couple of tools that I can grab quickly at the end of the day.
