The Making of Mamont Vodka

In 2001, after surviving an emergency landing, a group of 12 gentlemen found themselves trapped by glaciers in the South Pole. While waiting for a rescue team to arrive, they warmed themselves up with vodka and soon came up with the idea of organizing an expedition to find the great Mammoth.

They couldn’t believe their luck when in 2003, an original Mammoth tusk was discovered peaking out from the melting ice of the frozen tundra in Russia. Hearing about this breakthrough, one of the 12 explorers, Frederick Paulsen, organised for a team of scientists to go to the site.

The Great Mammoth

Remarkably the layers of ice reveal a whole mammoth with hair still attached. The Yukagir mammoth turned out to be one of the most important discoveries for today’s scientists.

To honour this wonderful adventure and the heritage found in Siberia, Mr Paulsen brought Mamont Vodka to life. A vodka that is elegant, timeless and full of character. Mamont vodka is produced in one of Russia’s oldest distilleries at the foot of the famous Altai Mountains. It is made by skilled craftsmen using only traditional methods, natural ingredients and a sustainable production.

Crystal Clear & Silky Smooth

Siberia is a mysterious land, stretching from the Urals to the Pacific and from the borders of China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan to the Arctic. Few have experienced its uncommonly wild and haunting beauty, unspoilt forests, lakes, rivers, and mountains.

The Altai Mountain springs supply the water, which is renowned throughout Russia for its purity. First the finest Siberian white winter wheat is selected, then carefully fermented to produce an exceptional alcohol. The spirit is then, distilled six times. A small proportion of cedar nut spirit is added to the liquid before being carefully filtered through silver birch charcoal.

SINGLE ESTATE – CRAFTED IN ALTAI, SIBERIA To create MAMONT vodka we have chosen one of the ecologically purest regions of Russia - Altai. From grain to the bottle, MAMONT is crafted in one single location and follows the terroir principle. We use our own malted spirit, made from local germinated grain that doesn’t contain any artificial ferments.In the original recipe we use the finest local winter wheat, barley, rye and millet. During production the spirit is 6 times distilled, which gives our vodka its smooth taste with a dry finish. We mix the alcohol with artesian water from our own wells and add some aromatic alcohol extract of Altai pine nuts, which is considered as a sacred tree in the Altai culture. The ready blend is filtered with birch charcoal, enriched with silver ions and is left to “rest” for a perfectly balanced taste. THE ITKUL DISTILLERY Mamont Vodka is created at one of the oldest distilleries of Siberia at the foot of The Altai Mountains - The Itkul Distillery. The Itkul distillery, founded in 1868, is the oldest operating distillery in Siberia and the only one in Russia to produce alcohol from pure malt. The traditions of the founders are preserved and continuously improved with the use of advanced technologies. Local natural ingredients and full control at each production stage due to the full ownership of the distillery are the key values of the exceptional quality of Mamont Vodka.
