I can't read Ukranian (the language on the label I believe ) , but I can see no mention of the 60%+ alcohol it should contain to be any use against the current threat ?

Find this rather overpriced. But sanitiser is an handbag essential. Wouldn't buy it at this price though x

I purchased a bottle of 'Antibacterial handwash' from Aldi yesterday, for 59p, a 500ml bottle !! It claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria. Looking at the list of ingredients it doesn't specifically mention alcohol or perecentages of each product, so not sure how effective it is in the current crisis - however, surely it is better than nothing!

Alcohol content relates to hand sanitiser gels, not handwash. Normal bar of soap is as effective as any anti-bacterial handwash, and probably kinder of your skin. Your Aldi handwash is fine though.

Antibacterial kills germs , Alcohol (normally ethanol) kills viruses . Think folks are getting confused and why antibacterial handwashes (basically liquid soap ) are selling out .

Washing hands in whatever is still vital (wash any virus down the plughole ) but to actually kill the latest nasty you need a handwash containing at least 60% alcohol .

Sadly drinking spirits (Vodka, say ) are no use as they are only about 35 - 40 % proof - unless you have a supply of that evil Russian/Polish stuff that is about 70% !

The Anti-Bac handwashes are fine as they are basically soap, and, mixed with water are fine... just do the 20 second thing and thoroughly clean you crevices and under your nails.

zggb0b Of course washing hands is essential , but these handwashes do little more than soap will do .

If you actually want to kill any virus (as opposed to germ ) that has got on your hands as opposed to washing it off you need an Alcohol based sanitiser .

Washing hands in whatever soap is of course essential (washes the nasties away down the plughole ) but only alcohol will actually KILL the virus .

I really think folks should read up and educate themselves on this matter as folks are pointlessly panic buying antibacterial handwash , often at great expense , when a couple of bars of soap would do the same job .

Golfforall Soap and water is the best option as the soap breaks down the lipids in the virus cell... it can be a BAR of SOAP or a HANDWASH gel (they BOTH contain SOAP! ) Hand SANITISER gel is OK if you don't have access to soap and water, but WASH your hands with SOAP and WATER when you can.

Why SOAP and WATER works better and how it works is here....... https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/12/science-soap-kills-coronavirus-alcohol-based-disinfectants

zggb0b So you have found (after 12 days !) one article that suggest soap may kill part of the virus ? In the meantime I have read hundreds of articles which claim soap is effective in washing it off and down the plughole . If its not on your hands it prevents you from wiping it into your mouth ,eyes nose etc . The virus is killed by alcohol (not beer , wine or even spirits ) as it needs to be 60% + proof .

Yes soap is good for washing the nasty off your hands but the alcohol hand sanitiser actually kills it . Why is alcohol based hand gel used in hospitals ? Perhaps they haven't read the Guardian (like 98% of the population ) ?

Anyway I think the best way is to use the double barrelled approach . Kill the nasty with alcohol gel , then wash your hands thoroughly to remove any remainder .

By the way I think your Caps Lock is sticking ?

Oh wow, if this isn't profiteering at a time of a pandemic then I don't know what is. These people should be ashamed of themselves if not be facing legal action against them.
