What is Microsoft?
Microsoft is an American multinational technology company founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975. The company develops, manufactures, licenses, supports and sells computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers and services as well. The word "Microsoft" is a portmanteau of "microcomputer" and "software"
The co-founders began the company’s story by developing and selling BASIC Interpreters for the Altair 8800. It rose to dominate the personal computer operating system market in mid-80s with its MS-DOS. Since the 90s, it has increasingly diversified from the operating system market and has made a number of corporate acquisitions, including their biggest acquisition to date for LinkedIn followed by Skype Technologies.
In 2009, they launch a chain of retail stores as well as an online shopping site dealing in computers, computer software and consumer electronics.
The stores aim to improve the PC and Microsoft retail purchase experience for consumers worldwide and help consumers make more informed decisions about their PC and software purchases. The Microsoft Store concept is similar to the popular Apple Store, which has been largely successful. Over the last three decades, the company has consistently transformed the way that people live, work, play and connect through great technology. They inspired every day by the genuine belief that they can change the world for the better.
