Sorry, a bit confused by this. My son has been doing online (PC) martial arts lessons and his instructor has set up Zoom which my son was invited to join in (via the Zoom link). My son can see his martial arts instructor but his instructor cannot see him or talk to my son as we don't have a microphone built into the PC - would this item enable my son to chat to his instructor via the Zoom class - would he need the webcam on as well at the same time?

Also, if I just needed a microphone for say live online chat at a website, could I just use the microphone bit to do this? Thank you.

cinders hi you could use this if didn’t wont to be seen just cover the camera lens. Then you have use of both options if needed to do live video
