Passport expiring in next 9 months? Renew it before the price hike on 27th March and you will get the remaining months added on.
As from March 27 UK passport prices are set to rise considerably for those applying by post. The current £72.50 charge for an adult passport will increase by 17% to £85 but by applying online it will only increase by £3, to £75.50.
For fast-track service it will go from £103 to £142 and the premium service will have a premium price attached – rising from £128 to £177! Similarly, a children’s passport will also increase to £58.50 for under 16’s – a huge 27% increase but an online application will be £49.
This means that a family of four – two adults and two children under 16 will have to pay £287 for a postal application. If your passport is due to expire within the next 9 months then the time left on your existing passport will be added to the new one – so you may save yourself the proposed price increase by applying earlier. However, you will still receive the same burgundy cover as the new blue ones will not be issued until October 2019
Thanks. HMPO sent me a text reminding me the other day that my passport was running out and this has reminded me of that. I best get on it!
Hey Amz - fair question! I'm not sure we have a particularly strict policy on this. I (personally) think if they're one-offs then they don't do much harm being shared as deals as they get a lot more attention than things over in chat so it ultimately helps more people out.
We moved things such as survey sites to a singular post on chat as it seemed more useful to have them all grouped together in one place rather than separately spread across the site.
As ever, more than open to feedback as to the best way forward!
