The company’s headquarter is based in London and operates in numerous markets worldwide. River Island was founded by Brandon Lewis and his brothers, and has remained a private company ever since. By 1948, under the title Lewis Separates, the River Island chain expands to nine stores. In 1965, boasting of 70 stores all throughout UK, the company was given a new identity and was re-branded to Chelsea Girl, where it became the first ever UK boutique chain. The company expanded its offerings in 1982 into menswear with the launch of Concept Man stores before merging with Chelsea Girl in 1988 to become one retail brand under the name River Island. Standard Delivery- Cost is £3.99 and deliveries may take up to 3 to 4 working days upon placing your order. Delivery may take longer during busy times.
- Delivery date will be confirmed at the checkout before placing an order and this information will be included in your order confirmation email as well.
- Delivery will take place between 7am and 9pm and a signature may be required in some cases.
- If no one is around to receive the parcel or there is no safe place to leave it, a calling card will be left by the delivery driver with instruction on how you can rearrange delivery.
Express Delivery- Cost is £5.99 and your order will be delivered the Next Day if placed before 6pm from Monday to Friday and before 5pm on Saturday.
- Orders placed after 5pm on Saturday and before 5pm on Sunday will be delivered on Monday.
- Orders placed before 5pm on UK Bank Holidays will be delivered the next day if it’s not a Bank Holiday. Orders placed after 5pm on a Bank Holiday will be delivered two days later.
- Expected delivery date will be confirmed at checkout upon placing your order.

How do I return an item to River Island?
Online Orders
- Online orders can be returned on their stores within one month of your order date.
- Take the item you’re returning together with the Despatch Note to any store within the following countries: UK (excluding Jersey and Isle of Man stores), Republic of Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden.
- They do not accept returns to any of their other international stores.
- The refund of items purchased online can only be refunded onto the card used to purchase them.
- For Collect+, Doodle, Hermes ParcelShop or Royal Mall, returns are Free. Simply complete and detach the Returns Slip included on your parcel and repack the items in their original packaging. Return the parcel to your chosen location within 14 days or receipt. Processing of returns may take up to 14 days once parcel is received.
- Refunds on food, grooming products, pierced jewellery, underwear and swimwear with the hygiene strip removed are cannot be offered refunds for reasons of health and hygiene.
In-Store Orders- To return items ordered at River Island store, take the items to be returned, together with the Despatch Note included in your parcel or your till receipt to any River Island store within UK (excluding Jersey and Isle of Man stores), Republic of Ireland, Netherlands and Belgium.
- Returns are not accepted in their other international stores.
- Refund will be given via your original payment method.
Exchanges- Exchanges on online orders and River Island store in UK (excluding Jersey and Isle of Man stores), Republic of Ireland, Netherlands and Belgium, currently does not offer exchanges.
- Bring your Despatch Note as proof of purchase.

Gift Cards
You can purchase a River Island Gift Card online and in-store with the exceptions of Selfridges, Jersey, Belgium and The Netherlands. You can also purchase Gift Cards in selected Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrison’s, Boots, WHSmith, Clinton and Wilkinson stores. You can spend it in most of their stores but is not currently available to spend online. The amount is £2 upwards and is available in different designs.
