What is Ryanair?
Ryanair Ltd. is a low-cost Irish airline founded in 1984 as Danren Enterprises by Cristopher Ryan, Liam Lonergan and Tony Ryan. It was renamed and rebranded as Ryanair soon after and started its operations in 1985 with a 15-seat Embraer Bandeirante turboprop airline flying between Waterford and Gatwick Airport. Their main aim at that time was to break the duopoly on London-Ireland flights at that time, held by British Airways and Aer Lingus.
Today, its main operational bases are at Dublin and London Stansted with its headquarters located in Dublin, Ireland. The company is the largest airline in Europe by scheduled passengers flown and they also carry more international passengers compared to any other European airlines. The airline operates the 403 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with a single 737-700 used mainly as a charter aircraft, as well as a backup plane and for pilot training.
Ryanair is known for expanding rather fast which was a result of the deregulation of the aviation industry in Europe in 1997 and also because of how successful their low-cost business model have become. The company grew from being a small airline flying the short destination from Waterford to London to become one of Europe’s largest Carrier. Their route network services around 34 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
