Personally I would avoid a fire tv like the plague as not a user of Amazon services and don't have prime. The level of forced advertising on fire devices can be horrific nowadays and would do my head in. Life is too short to watch rubbish like that. An android/google television may still allow third party android apps with built in adblockers etc like smart tube. When I use itv x I connect via bluetooth from my laptop to mirror the screen so I can watch itv x shows without adverts. Occasionally an advert will show and I just toggle ublock origin lite from full blocking to optimised blocking or vice versa to block the adverts again at no cost. Remember such televisions are low in price as the price is subsidised by the expectation you will waste your life watching tons of un-necessary adverts.

Amazon Fire TV devices feature a heavy amount of forced advertising that occupies a large portion of the user interface and can take over the screen upon startup. [1, 2, 3]

Ad Placement and Types

  • Home Screen Banners: Up to 90% of the main interface can be dedicated to promotional content, sponsored show recommendations, and brand ads. [1]
  • Startup Video Ads: Devices frequently trigger full-screen video and audio advertisements immediately when turning on or waking up. [1, 2]
  • Mandatory Pop-Ups: Amazon pushes full-screen takeovers that require manual acknowledgment or dismissal with the remote before you can access your streaming apps. [1, 2]
  • Screensavers: Promotional images and brand placements also appear when the device sits idle in standby mode.
