What is UGG?
Ugg is a US-based footwear company founded in 1978 by an Australian surfer named Brian Smith and Doug Jensen in Southern California. It is a registered trademark in more than 130 countries for footwear as well as bags, clothing, outwear, home goods and other products. By mid-80s the brand had become a symbol of relaxed Southern California culture, gaining undeniable success through shops up and down the coast of California. By early 2000, the brand’s boots have been identified as a fashion trend for men and women.
The company’s story began when Smith and Jensen first applied to be the US distributors for the Western Australian sheepskin boot manufacturer, Country Leather. Unhappy with the brand, Smith then trademarked Ugg. With the help of family and friends, they set up Ugg Imports. In their first season in business, they sold around 28 pairs of boots. In 1979, Jenses handed over his share of the company to Smith due to business commitments. With a steady growth of sales, Smith set up Ugg Holdings Inc. and in 1985 registered a US trademark on a rams head logo with the words "Original UGG Boot UGG Australia".
The brand’s success was unstoppable with numerous shops opening in major cities around the world throughout the years including New York City, Paris and London and in countries such as China and Japan. They also collaborated with the biggest names in the fashion industry like Jimmy Choo and Swarovski Elements. Striking a harmonious balance between classic comfort and decadent décor essentials, the Home Collection launched in 2013. They also launched a Loungewear on that same year, which is the ultimate in nonchalant luxury which features sumptuous silhouettes fused a snuggly feel and flattering fit for the epitome of comfort-wear.
