WHEN IS WORLD BOOK DAY 2017?
In the UK and Ireland World Book Day is on Thursday 2 March 2017.
WHAT IS WORLD BOOK DAY?
World Book Day is an annual celebration of reading launched in the UK in 1997 that helps kids discover the joy of books and promotes reading and writing standards from pre-school children to young adults. Last year’s World Book Day saw almost 800,000 books offered to UK schoolchildren for just £1 a book.
This year there are ten different titles available at just £1 each from some of the best writing and illustrating talent being published in the UK and Ireland today.
Free £1 booktokens are given to schoolchildren and they can choose what £1 book they want from the 10 paperbacks available. During the celebration children dress up as their favourite storybook characters in schools and authors appear at events around the UK.
WHAT ARE THE WORLD BOOK DAY £1 BOOKS?
Jacqueline Wilson, Julia Donaldson and David Walliams are among the authors who have written new stories to mark the 20th World Book Day in the UK in 2017. Former children’s laureate Donaldson and illustrator Lydia Monks have contributed a new Princess Mirror-Belle title to the World Book Day lineup, and there’s a new story from comedian Walliams. The selection covers readers from pre-schoolers to young adults, with the 10 titles also featuring a collection of stories from Enid Blyton, a Peppa Pig book, and writing from Francesca Simon and David Almond.
