I'm new to xbox 1. Once I have bought this do I need to enter both codes, or wait until the main one expires?
Will this take immediate effect, or when my daughter's first months pass expires in 3 weeks time.
Can anyone who has successfully purchased this and uploaded it please explain the process.

You'll receive two codes, both 3 months for each.
You can redeem as you wish, you can add one code to one account and the other for another.
You can also redeem online via your web browser (see below);
How to redeem a prepaid code on an Xbox 360 console.
▪︎Sign in to the Microsoft account for which you want to use the prepaid code.
▪︎Press the Guide button on your controller.
▪︎Select Games & Apps , and then select Redeem Code.
▪︎Enter the 25-character prepaid code, and then select Done.
▪︎When prompted, select Yes to confirm the redemption.

Before entering each code, go to your account subscriptions and turn off 'recurring payments', do this for each code prior to redeeming. Why? Once you've redeemed a code, you'll be offered one free month if you 'turn on' recurring payments!
