To help the nation commemorate VE Day on Friday (8 May), all historical records on family history website Ancestry will be free from Monday 4 May to Sunday 10 May.
The 75th anniversary of VE Day will take place on Friday 8 May, marking 75 years since Winston Churchill declared a national holiday to celebrate the news that the World War Two β and nearly six years of fighting in Europe β had come to an end.
This free access gives people the chance to discover more about their familyβs involvement in the World War Two, the roles they played in a time of need and the personal stories that lie behind that period of history.
Ancestry hosts the UKβs largest online collection of family history documents with more than two billion searchable records. Millions of these records are specifically from World War Two, which can help people discover the everyday experiences of soldiers on the frontline as well as all the people back home who lived through rationing, evacuation, and led the vital efforts on the home front.
briansmith13050 Agreed! Full search criteria entered and it produced nothing. Great βfreebie β, Ancestry
jazzters I am really sorry for this, it did say free when I posted. Obviously it isn't
I know my mother used ancestry along with other resources, I think she went back as far as the 1700s. It would be interesting to pick where she left off. Thanks for sharing
Tried to get my grandparents records and I got nothing. I tried their names and nicknames they used and they were showing me people with completely different first or surnames. I'm glad I didn't pay for it because it was very frustrating and after almost four hours I have given up on finding them.
No it is free but I'm saying I wouldn't have paid for it if it wasn't as I didn't find anything on there. Sorry for the confusion JulieAndre39773
