If you going to give something for free it should be free for delivery to because then it’s not free as your paying nearly £4 for delivery

Why should the company pay the delivery fee as well? They're already giving you an item for free and it costs them to send it ... so why should't you pay the postage?

Like

bethgriff

TractorGirl327 the problem is that the postage doesn’t cost £3.95, it’s so light and small that it couldn’t cost that much so you are paying towards the product not just shipping

bethgriff You'd be suprised how much postage costs. Given the thickness, you probably couldn't send as a large letter with RM. So probably sent as a small package, which isn't too far from that price. Then the packaging costs, time sorting orders, staff costs, payment processing fees etc. They will probably be making a loss sending this for £3.95. Especially if you include the cost of the item itself - even at wholesale.

Insight as someone has already commented a small box parcel up to 2kg is only around £3. I agree that there are other costs to bear in mind but it just annoys me when they class it as postage when really it’s covering the other costs you have mentioned. People have also found it on eBay for less than the postage you are paying

bethgriff A Royal Mail 2nd Class non-tracked small package is £3 looking at the site. 1st class is £3.85. Anything signed for or with proof of delivery is more expensive than £3.95. I don't think it's unjustifable to class this as postage (if we don't know what postage they're using).

I think this is more a case of people not realising just how insanely expensive postage is nowadays. It was a shock to me when I did a bit of eBay selling. I was selling socks and even at a wholesale price of 90p per pair, I would make a loss selling them under £3.45 (with large-letter postage - so cheaper than this product is to ship).

Insight put the fact is that they will probably use the cheapest postage available to save costs so it wouldn’t be that much. Honestly it doesn’t matter much to me as I’m not buying it. I was just explaining to someone why people might be annoyed at paying nearly £4 for delivery

bethgriff True, maybe they use Hermes or something, but I can guarentee even using the cheapest postage available they will still probably make a loss or just about break even (depending on cost of these wholesale).

Insight people have already said its online for cheaper and these people online wouldn’t sell it for cheaper to make a loss so probably not worth much at all. Plus by giving freebies they make money from repeat customers and getting their name out there

bethgriff you know this doesn’t JUST cover ‘postage’??? This price covers the cost of postage, the cost of the packaging used, the labour of the person packing, the labour of the person who is taking the items to be posted and so on... do you know nothing about e-commerce??? They do t just stick a stamp on an item and it magically ends up at your house!

L1TTL35UNFL0W3R I’ve already explained my feelings on that. So you agree it doesn’t go on postage as they say😂 If they couldn’t afford to offer it as free then they wouldn’t- £3.95 couldn’t pay workers for their labour?

bethgriff I own a business so actually the shipping charges also incorporate the member of staffs time, the boxes and bubble wrap used, and the ink/paper used for the label. So Hermes for example would charge the company £2.90 to send the parcel, the rest is to pay for above mentioned. Which at £1.09 is a reasonable charge to be fair 🙂

tammylou89 these trackers are only worth around £1, plus they buy them in bulk from China, usually around 20p per unit for example. They also have postage on account usually, so don’t have to pay for individual parcels. They make money how pound stores used to, by shifting lots of items at low profit margins. So out of the £3.95 they’ll make maybe 80p after costs. But if they sell 1,000 items a day, that soon adds up.

Alternatively, another method is that the items are drop shipped. Meaning, when you order one for £3.95, they then order from a wholesaler on somewhere like Wish, and enter your details. Which might cost them £1-1.50, the rest is profit.

For stuff like this, if you don’t mind waiting 1-3 weeks for postage, you can usually buy direct from China for half the price on Wish or AliExpress.

Not having a go or trying to argue, just thought it might be useful or interesting. Especially as most of us are on this site because we like to save money, and I personally like to save every penny possible 🙂

bethgriff I agree this item can be purchased at home bargains or other pound shops quite easily and from personal experience it will not cost £3.85 to post especially in they are using trade delivery.

Let me rephrase the title just for you.

Mini GPS Tracking Finder £3.95

Is that better? You'll get the exectly the same thing, and you would have paid exactly the same.

...But now I'm triggered, delivery is free. Delivery obviously isn't free.

n4te it is probably a case of it links to your phone and your phone records the GPS position of the mobile when Bluetooth connection is lost so it's more a last known location than a tracker

If it’s Bluetooth it’s not GPS, delete this as it’s factually incorrect and will mislead those who are unfortunate to purchase!

False advertising. Not GPS. Do not assume this has tracker capabilities i.e. that it will show you where the item is. It will tell you where you lost (stepped away from) your item, not where it is now. Also rubbish if you leave you item in a secure location. For example you leave your back pack under your desk and go to a meeting in another building.
