57% Of People Looking for New Job Due to Cost of Fuel Increase
- New survey reveals 57% of people are looking for a new job due to increases in the cost of fuel
- More than half of respondents want a job closer to home to save money on their commute
- The cost of fuel has made commuting to work unsustainable
Commuting to work by car is no longer sustainable due to the cost of fuel increases, a new survey reveals.
Asked, "Is anyone looking for a new job closer to home because of the cost of fuel?", 57% of respondents replied "Yes", and 43% said "No".
Tom Church, Co-Founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk said, "Fuel prices are so expensive people cannot afford to drive to work. The majority of respondents, 57%, are looking for a new job closer to home. This is a major response to an increase in fuel prices and shows how far things have gone."
"The Government has cut rates for diesel and unleaded and leaded petrol by 5 pence per litre (ppl), but it's obviously not enough. Some petrol stations are charging £2 a litre, which is bonkers."
"Expensive fuel is a lose-lose-lose situation: Consumers lose, businesses lose because consumers cut unnecessary trips, the economy loses."
"For the people who do manage to find a job closer to home, if it's the same pay and a shorter commute, they may end up grateful for the decision as it'll probably lead to a better lifestyle. But if it's in exchange for lower salaries (and therefore pensions) it's not a good thing at all."
