Aldi Tops January List as UK's Most Affordable Supermarket

- 21% of Brits aim to tighten their belts in 2025, reports YouGov
- Aldi offers significant savings compared to rivals like Waitrose
Aldi has been named the Cheapest Supermarket for January by consumer group Which?, maintaining its title for 15 consecutive months. Shoppers can save up to £57.08 weekly by choosing Aldi over Waitrose. Amidst post-holiday financial strain, nearly a quarter of Brits have vowed to spend less and save more in 2025, according to YouGov. The discount store's basket of 100 essentials costs £185.83, cheaper than Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Waitrose. Julie Ashfield from Aldi UK acknowledges the financial pressures of January and commits to delivering quality at unbeatable prices.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, remarked, "It's always great to see options like Aldi helping people stretch their budgets further, especially at the start of a new year."

I'm not a great fan of Which I think they are a totally useless consumer site and magazine that seems to get most things wrong however perhaps they can take some lessons from Aldi and stop charging £10.99 for their pamphlet of a magazine and offer some value themselves. As ever with some comparisons you have to look at the details of the comparison. They may not be factoring in various discount schemes other supermarkets provide or the fact they have a much greater range of products and the convenience of buying from one store without multiple trips which is extra petrol and time. I only spend about £12-15 in Aldi it doesn't have most of what I'm after and some of the products are unacceptable quality to me however its my nearest supermarket so can walk home the little shopping I do there.
