Aldi Tops UK Supermarket Pay Charts Yet Again

- Aldi raises minimum hourly wage to £12.71 nationally
- London colleagues will earn at least £14.00 per hour
- Pay increases further with service length
- Aldi remains the only supermarket paying for breaks
Aldi is once again leading the charge in supermarket remuneration, upping the minimum hourly wage for Store Assistants to £12.71 across the UK, with London-based staff earning at least £14.00.
These changes, starting from March 1st, surpass the Real Living Wage. Long-serving staff will see rates rise further, reaching £13.62 nationally and £14.23 within the M25. Unique among UK supermarkets, Aldi also continues to pay for breaks, equating to a yearly benefit of around £1,370. Aldi's CEO Giles Hurley expressed pride in the workforce, emphasising their critical role in delivering great value to customers.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Aldi's new pay structure reinforces their commitment to fair compensation and employee well-being. It sets a strong example in the retail sector."

Have you seen the long queues in most Aldi branches? I give up shopping there without buying anything. Aldi would be better off having more checkouts opened and staffed by checkout staff only like most supermarkets instead of these ridiculous pay rises they give their staff yearly.

Aldi staff do seem to work their ***** off. They never seem to get a break and the tills are poorly manned. You can have a store with 7 tills and only 1 is operating despite a huge amount of people waiting for the checkouts, you wonder why they even built so many tills in the store if they never operate all 7? They certainly earn their money I guess but under manning stores can be a pain for customers. What is most annoying for me is I don't buy much from Aldi as generally don't like the quality very much and they don't have a lot of stuff I need so I'm waiting a long time just to check out 7 items lets say. £13.62 is only marginally above other supermarkets too, personally I think I'd rather have slightly less pence per hour but much less stress.

BonzoBanana I am mainly an Asda shopper (Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Tesco (loyalty card holder). I have an Aldi store within ten minutes walking distance from my home, but I would rather catch a bus to go to any of the top four supermarkets with hardly any queues and toilets available.
