Avocados Accepted Instead of Millennial Railcard

Yesterday, a limited amount of the ‘Millennial Railcards’ went on on sale as part of a trial run, and they sold out instantly, crashing the website.
10,000 of the digital cards went on sale yesterday to 26-30 year olds, which will knock 30% off the price of train tickets.
Due to the cards being highly anticipated since their announcement in the November Budget, the website crashed from high demand, meaning thousands missed out on the cards.
Some regions were able to get their hands on the cards last month, but thousands have been waiting for their chance and have now missed out.
However, Virgin Trains have now announced that they will accept an avocado in place of a 26-30 railcard.
For one week, the company will let travellers in the age range use millennials favourite food, the avocado, in place of the card- just show it to a ticket officer on a Virgin Train for the discount to be valid.
Virgin said, “Bring an avocado when buying your Virgin Trains ticket, and passengers aged 26 to 30 can get the same discount as offered by the millennial railcard.”
The promotion, which is being called the ‘avocard’, will be valid until midnight on the 20th March.
If you missed out on the railcard, or you’re not an avocado fan, you can wait until April to get one of the cards yourself, although a date hasn’t been set for when they’ll be available for everyone yet.
