If you’re spending more time than ever in your garden, but wishing it looked totally different, take inspiration from this savvy mum who transformed her outdoor space on a budget.

Amy Mycock, 29, a mum of two from Stoke-on-Trent, transformed her outside space using bargain buys from B&M and Wilko.

Amy, a care assistant in a nursing home, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I’ve been wanting to create a decking area in my garden for a while. I had a trampoline there but my daughters very rarely go on it so I asked them if they’d rather a Lay-Z-Spa instead and they said yes!

"I measured the area once the trampoline had gone, and got my dad to order me the wood from a local wood place. The total for all the wood and screws was £140. Once the frame was built and put in place, it didn’t take long at all to put the top planks on.

"The paint I used was from Wilko and was £7, and the solar lights were from B&M and cost £4 a box - I bought 3 boxes.

“The solar lantern was from B&M and was £20, the Lay-Z-Spa was £250 from B&M, and my egg chair was £150 from B&M but I bought that last year. I queued in-store following social distancing rules!

“The entire project cost £429 in total not including the egg chair."

Amy is delighted with how the project has turned out, and highly recommends a DIY challenge during the lockdown.

“This project has helped me through lockdown as I love pottering in the garden and putting my own stamp on things,” she adds. “The image I had in my head for my garden has come to life and I’m so happy with it.

"It’s also kept me busy as my two daughters have been living with my mum and dad for just over a month because I’m a key worker in a care home.

“We’ve had the virus there so I couldn’t risk bringing anything home to them, so for their safety, they have been staying elsewhere for the time being. So I’m always trying to find things to do to keep my mind busy.

"Ordering the wood was easy enough - I had to ring the place up, you tell them what you want so they will pick it all and they ring you with a collection time slot.

“Overall, I’m so happy with my lockdown project, my garden is so cosy now and I can’t wait for my daughters to be home so they can enjoy it with me!"

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “With the lovely weather we’ve been enjoying in the UK, and the lockdown rules in full force, those of us lucky enough to have outside space are making the most of it.

“If you’re keen for a lockdown project, take a leaf out of Amy’s book - simple additions like the solar lights add cosiness and elegance to any patio!"

Looks fine, tbh, but she couldn't do far too much with that tiny space anyhow.
