E.On Next’s ‘Time of Use’ Tariff Could Cut Bills by £370

- New energy tariff could save up to £370 a year for households who shift energy use to off-peak times
- Off-peak, super off-peak, and peak rates introduced to help reduce costs during non-peak hours
- Energy expert weighs in on whether the deal is worth it for every household
E.On Next has launched a groundbreaking new energy tariff that promises to save UK households an average of £370 a year. The "Next Smart Saver" tariff introduces a Time of Use system, offering customers different rates depending on when they use electricity.
With off-peak rates between 5am-4pm and 7pm-2am priced at 20.11p per kilowatt hour, and super off-peak rates between 2am-5am at 16.33p per kilowatt hour, this tariff is designed to reward households willing to shift their energy usage. However, the peak rate between 4pm-7pm is a higher 38.48p per kilowatt hour.
According to E.On Next, the new tariff is a UK first for mass-market customers and can save up to 20% on energy bills compared to standard variable tariffs. "With energy prices fluctuating, we know customers are looking for ways to take control of their bills," said Ramona Vlasiu, COO at E.On Next.
Elise Melville, energy expert at Uswitch, commented: "The tariff could be worth it for those who can adjust their energy usage to off-peak hours. However, for most households, especially those with evening energy-intensive needs, the higher peak rate could outweigh the savings."
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: "This tariff offers savings for those who can adjust their habits, but it’s not for everyone. If you're not in a position to shift your energy use, you might want to look into other fixed-rate deals or Economy 7 tariffs that could provide better savings."
