  • Brits guzzle over 12 million litres of coffee every morning to kickstart their day.
  • Over 53 million cups are poured before most people even start work!
  • Londoners lead the charge, with their first sip happening at 7:14am on average.
  • Gen Z is twice as likely to choose oat milk over dairy compared to Boomers.
  • Nespresso & Oatly are giving away free oat flat whites – here’s where to grab one!

If your morning doesn’t start until you’ve had a coffee in hand, you’re not alone. A study of 2,000 adults has revealed just how much the UK depends on caffeine, with over 12 million litres of coffee being consumed in the early hours of the day. In total, that’s over 53 million cups, according to a new report commissioned by Nespresso.

The research was carried out to mark the launch of Nespresso’s new oat milk-compatible pods in collaboration with Oatly – and to celebrate, they’re handing out free oat flat whites to lucky commuters. If you’re passing through London Victoria today, Waterloo on February 14, or Manchester Piccadilly on February 17, you could bag one between 7am and 12pm.

Even better? Stars from The Traitors, Linda Rands and Minah Shannon, are the ones serving up the brews!

The study also found that 54% of coffee lovers admit they simply can’t function without their morning cup, while 47% wouldn’t dare leave the house for work without one. Londoners take their coffee most seriously, with the first sip happening at 7:14am on average, and a whopping 52% of them saying it gives them the energy boost they need.

Interestingly, Gen Z drinkers are twice as likely to swap dairy for oat milk compared to Boomers (21% vs. 10%), showing a shift in preferences towards plant-based alternatives.

I wouldn’t recognise the Traitor stars as I don’t watch the program so doubt they’ll pass me a free coffee.
