Gemma Lewis: How to Upgrade Your Bedroom on a DIY Budget

An interior-loving mum has given us all a masterclass in how to stylishly transform a bedroom from an old-fashioned space into a modern but cosy haven.
Gemma Lewis, 36 a mum-of-four from Barry, Wales, recently bought her first home and wanted to change its look from outdated and tired into a Pinterest-worthy house.
Gemma, who works for the NHS, used materials from budget brands including Dunelm, B&Q, eBay and Ikea to make her bedroom into a gorgeously cosy space.
“I wanted a really chilled out bedroom - somewhere I could relax and feel tranquil in,” Gemma told LatestDeals.co.uk. “I'm not a huge fan of bold colours in my own home - I love neutral colours, greens, greys, off whites, all quite natural.”
To find her dream materials, Gemma, who shares her renovation updates on Instagram renovating_95, went on the hunt for natural-looking accessories, and managed to find pallets for free from a nearby building site.
“The pallet wall cost nothing as the pallets were given to me from a building site. I painted them using Dulux polished pebble,” Gemma adds. “White paint was used for the rest of the room. The pendant lights were from Next and the idea was taken from Pinterest - I just love all the ideas on there!
“The wardrobes and bed are from IKEA, the cushions are from B&Q and the bedding is from Morrisons - it’s really good quality.
“I normally buy my bedding from Next or M&S but they didn't have what I wanted.
How much did it cost?
“All in all, I spent £60 for paint, £120 for the lights, £25 for the bedding, £40 for the cushions, £300 for the carpet, £150 for the blinds and £8 for the pictures. I already owned the bed and the wardrobes.”
Gemma said, “I have enjoyed doing the renovations and have loved seeing seeing how far we've come in a short space of time.”
