Lidl's £6 Backpack Sends Shoppers Wild – But There's A Catch For Jet-Setters

- Lidl to drop £6 foldable backpack perfect for travel
- Comes with 3-year warranty and folds into pocket
- Just within Ryanair’s cabin bag limits – but read the small print
- Backpack holds 15kg and launches this Thursday in stores only
Savvy shoppers are gearing up for a stampede at Lidl as the discount supermarket prepares to launch a £6 foldable backpack that’s causing a stir among holidaymakers.
Landing in the famous “Middle of Lidl” from Thursday (June 5), the 20-litre rucksack is tipped to fly off shelves faster than a Ryanair check-in queue. It folds neatly into its own pocket, making it a jet-set essential for budget airlines – particularly Ryanair, where every inch of cabin space counts.
Sam Walker reported in The Sun that the backpack, priced at just £5.99, is equipped with adjustable padded straps and can support up to 15kg. Its size when unfolded (H42.5 × W28 × D17cm) just squeezes under Ryanair’s cabin luggage allowance – but shoppers are being urged to check twice, as it might still land you a surprise fee at the gate.
For reference, Ryanair allows a personal bag of 40 x 20 x 25cm for free. Their standard cabin bag (55 x 40 x 20cm) starts at £6 – so if you’re planning to bring Lidl’s new bargain bag onboard, it may cost you extra.
Still, it’s miles cheaper than similar offerings from the likes of Decathlon (£13) and Mountain Warehouse (£9). And with a three-year warranty in the mix, it’s already earning its stripes among holiday bargain hunters.
But – in true Lidl fashion – it’s in-store only and when it’s gone, it’s gone. No restocks. No online orders. Just a scramble down your local aisle.
There are other summer finds at Lidl right now too – from fans at £30 to a shark-themed water slide for £15. If you fancy dodging the trolley chaos, Lidl’s “Middle Aisle” specials are updated online every Thursday and Sunday.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk said, "This is a classic Middle of Lidl winner – a product that’s functional, budget-friendly and ticks the travel trend box. But as always, it pays to compare prices and measure up before heading to the airport. Even if it’s only £6, if it ends up in the hold it could cost more than the flight!
