Loos in all 18 Network Rail managed stations will be free to use from next year.

The rail organisation has announced that passengers will no longer be charged up to 40p to use the facilities at its stations.

This includes commuter hotspots, such as Liverpool Street, Euston, Leeds, and Edinburgh Waverly.

Mark Carne, Network Rail’s chief executive, said, “It is wrong to penalise people when they are in discomfort.

“As a customer organisation, I think it is quite wrong to penalise people when they are in discomfort.

“Our job should be to make their life easier, not more difficult.

“As a company, we want to treat people with dignity and respect, whether they work for us or use our services.”

Network Rail customers have already seen an increase in tickets by 3.4%, so this move could help out customers by saving them a few pennies here and there.

Customers can also save my getting a railcard, such as the new Millennial one or a digital one, which can save loads on travel costs.

While the changes will affect some of the biggest stations in the UK, many more aren’t run by Network Rail, and instead are operated by separate companies, such as Greater Anglia, and Great Western Rail.

In some cases, these companies do charge passengers to use the toilet at these stations, and that won’t change as a result of today’s announcement.

However, Virgin doesn’t charge for using the loo at any of its stations on the east or west coast, and Greater Anglia also doesn’t.

What stations will be effected?

The following stations will no longer be charging customers to use the toilets there- Edinburgh Waverley; Glasgow Central; Leeds; Liverpool Lime Street; London Euston; London Liverpool Street; London King’s Cross; London Paddington; London Waterloo; and Manchester Piccadilly.
