McDonald’s Sparks Fury After Axing £2.99 McMuffin Breakfast Deal

- Fast food giant axes popular McMuffin meal, leaving Brits fuming
- Bargain-loving customers vow to take their hunger (and wallets) elsewhere
- Price hike now sees same items cost nearly £5
Greggs hailed as the cheaper alternative as McDonald's fans feel betrayed
McDonald's has quietly scrapped one of its most loved morning rituals, the £2.99 Sausage & Egg McMuffin and hot drink deal – and customers are absolutely livid.
Once hailed as a wallet-friendly saviour for commuters and early risers, the budget breakfast bundle has vanished from menus without warning. Regulars have taken to social media in disbelief, some vowing to boycott the chain entirely in favour of cheaper alternatives.
"I can't justify the prices on anything else," raged one user, while another added, "Do you know how many struggling UK citizens relied on this for a substantial breakfast? Now at £5, it's out of their range."
While McDonald’s insists the deal was only ever temporary and subject to availability, customers are calling foul play. Many report turning up at their local only to be met with inflated prices – the McMuffin alone now costs £3.39, and a regular white coffee £1.39 – a nearly £5 breakfast that used to cost just £2.99.
Harriet Cooke reported in The Sun that while some branches still offer a separate £2.99 Bacon Roll and drink combo under the “Breakfast Saver Menu,” it’s little consolation to fans of the now-axed McMuffin deal.
One user vented: “Went to Lichfield this morning, saw it was gone, went to Greggs instead.”
Greggs, known for its value offerings, continues to sell a breakfast roll and hot drink combo for £2.85, undercutting the golden arches by a tidy margin.
The backlash comes amid a wider menu shake-up by McDonald's which also saw the departure of fan favourites including the Chicken Caesar Wrap and the Biscoff McFlurry.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk the discount code platform said, "When it comes to the cost of living, small changes to menu pricing have big emotional impacts – especially for families and workers who rely on quick, affordable breakfasts. These deals aren’t just meals, they’re daily routines. And when you take them away, you hear about it."

McDonalds is such low quality sterile processed food anyway. Even Greggs seems like a huge upgrade in quality and seems to be a better price too. I get my free Greggs coffee each week as an Octoplus offer and really enjoy it and its something to look forward to when I'm in the town centre.

I cannot believe this , not that I eat their breakfasts but they seem to raise the prices constantly.
