Money-Saving Mum Transforms Daughter’s Room For Just £1 With Princess Mural
- Stacy Wimbleton, 22, was keen to buy her daughter a princess mural but it cost a whopping £150
- Stacy kept her eyes peeled on Facebook Marketplace
- She eventually sourced a stunning mural for free - and spent just £1 on wallpaper paste
Creative parents are always looking for ways to make their kids’ rooms amazing, but this can come at a serious price.
However, one mum has given us all a lesson in incredible bargain-hunting, managing to track down a free mural and transform her daughter’s room for less than the price of a coffee.
Stacy Wimbleton, 22, a stay at home mum to Leila Rose, three, wanted to create an amazing princess bedroom for her daughter, but needed to stick to a strict budget.
She had her eyes on a £150 princess mural from online retailer Walltastic, but managed to find the same product for free on Facebook Marketplace.
That meant she needed to spend just £1 on wallpaper paste from B&Q and her daughter’s room was transformed.
Stacy, who lives in Cambridgeshire, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I had been looking for a while to decorate my daughter Leila Rose’s bedroom and wasn’t sure what to do.
"I see a lot of murals and wanted to do one.
"I came across this one on Facebook Marketplace: it’s wallpaper split into 12 sheets. You have to line them up perfectly and stretch it to fit.
"We used wallpaper paste and a spirit level to make sure it was perfect. My mum helped me with this.
"It cost me £1 as the mural was free! I paid just £1 for the wallpaper paste.
“When my daughter walked in to see it complete, she was so overwhelmed. She had a smile from ear to ear and couldn’t stop saying ‘wow I love it, thank you so so much mummy’.
"I put the picture on Facebook and the response I have had is amazing.”
Stacy was delighted with the final look of the mural, especially considering she had managed to get the look she wanted on a budget.
"I had been searching for princess wallpaper for months and months on Facebook Marketplace, and we couldn’t find one we liked anywhere.
“My mum suggested typing in ‘princess mural’ and then it came up!
"I love Facebook Marketplace - they have loads of things on there for free or for really cheap.
“It would have cost me over £150 to buy brand new! I don’t have a lot of money so seeing it for free made me really happy.
"Lockdown has been very tough for me and my daughter.
“Her walls were white beforehand and I thought this would be perfect to redo her bedroom and make it a little girl's bedroom which she loves now!"
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “From buying cots and changing tables to sourcing wallpaper and toys, decorating a child’s bedroom is a seriously expensive task.
“However, if you’re savvy like Stacy, you’ll shop around before splurging on things you love. By taking her time and looking through Facebook Marketplace, she’s saved herself £150 and got the same lovely princess bedroom for just £1!"
