Mum under lockdown reveals £13 trick to changing the look of your kitchen

Are you bored of your kitchen but reluctant to spend money during the coronavirus crisis? Then take a leaf out of this DIY-savvy mum’s book, who smartened up her kitchen for just £12.99.
Rebecca Nicholls, 26, a mum of two and homemaker from Blackpool, managed to pep up her kitchen for the affordable amount by using cheap wallpaper from Home Bargains.
Rebecca told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: “The idea was purely because the kitchen was plain - we live in a rented house and have already put a lot of work into our baby's nursery, my seven year old's bedroom and the living room, making it all very modern.
“With the kitchen, we wanted a quick fix that wouldn't cost a fortune. I was shopping in Home Bargains and saw the slate style wallpaper and I loved it so I bought one roll knowing that would be enough to do above the kitchen worktop.”
As well as spending £10.99 for the wallpaper, Rebecca also spent £2 on snap off blades and wallpaper paste.
“The materials used were a £1 bag of paste, a paintbrush to apply it to the paper and a paste table, which is not necessary but I already have one so it makes it a little easier.
“I also used a sponge to bring any excess paste to the seam edge and a brand new blade from the Poundshop which cost £1 for 6.
"This is necessary - all you need to achieve good cut around light fittings, edges and sockets is a good fresh knife blade and they don't cost the earth. As long as you push hard enough when cutting, the paper wont fray or rip.
"So the cost was: £10.99 for wallpaper, £1 for six snap off blades and £1 for wallpaper paste, making a total of £12.99 for a completely different feel to the room!"
Rebecca is delighted with the new look of her kitchen, and says the job took her just half an hour.
"I love it now it's finished,” she adds. "I could see the change as I was doing it before it was even complete! It changes the room and feels a lot warmer.
“My main tip is about the blades: always use a sharp knife and you don't need scissors. Even when you're sizing the paper just use the blades.
"It took me a total of 30 minutes!"
