Primark Shoppers Hit With 15p Paper Bag Charge From May 12

- Primark fans, rejoice – or not! Starting from May 12, the budget-friendly retailer will charge 15p for its signature brown paper bags.
- A step towards sustainability? The charge aims to reduce single-use waste, promoting eco-conscious shopping habits.
- Reusable bags encouraged. Primark offers durable alternatives that shoppers can reuse, potentially saving money in the long run.
Primark, the high-street brand synonymous with affordable fashion, is making a significant eco-friendly change. As of May 12, customers will be required to pay 15p for their iconic brown paper bags, which had previously been free of charge. This move aligns with the brand's efforts to reduce waste and encourage reusable alternatives. The retailer has been known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, with these paper bags being made from 100% recycled materials, and fully recyclable themselves.
However, the new charge has sparked mixed reactions among shoppers. While Primark hopes the fee will prompt customers to bring their own reusable bags, not everyone is pleased. A TikTok user shared her shock after seeing the new notice, which quickly went viral, attracting over 1.2 million views. Despite the dismay from some customers, the charge is part of the company's broader strategy to minimize waste and environmental impact.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk the discount code platform, said, "It’s no surprise that many shoppers will be frustrated by the fee, but it's a step in the right direction if we want to make more sustainable choices. Hopefully, this will inspire customers to bring their own bags and cut down on unnecessary waste."

I am fuming at Primark for copying all the other retailers in charging their (loyal) customers a fee for a carrier bag. This has nothing to do with saving the planet, yawn, yawn. It is all about making extra profits out of their customers, just like the other retailers.
