Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Classic Panettone has been declared the best after a blind taste test conducted by Which?. The test, which involved 72 shoppers, compared nine panettone options from various supermarkets, with Sainsbury’s standing out for its perfect balance of sweetness, fruit content, and crumb texture. At £16 for 1kg, or £1.65 per 100g, it earned a Best Buy recommendation.

In a close second place was Aldi’s Specially Selected Panettone, which impressed with its firm crust and soft sponge. Priced at £4.99 for 750g (or 67p per 100g), Aldi’s offering was not only much cheaper than Sainsbury’s but also received Great Value and Best Buy endorsements, making it a strong contender for those seeking a budget-friendly yet tasty festive treat.

The Which? panel assessed the panettone on taste, aroma, mouthfeel, and appearance. Sainsbury's panettone garnered praise for its well-rounded flavour and delightful crust, while Aldi’s stood out for its value and quality, proving that a festive favourite can be both delicious and affordable.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, says, "Panettone is such a beloved Christmas treat, and it's great to see supermarkets competing for the title of best festive cake. Sainsbury's might be the winner here, but Aldi’s Specially Selected panettone offers fantastic value, especially for those on a budget!"

Horrible bland food never worth any of these prices though. Tried it once but never again. Heading reads like a Sainsburys positive story but again its just more Aldi press material from Latestdeals. You need to read anything here with a pinch of salt if it relates to Aldi. I don't know if Latestdeals are being paid directly by Aldi but suspect they are, this is nothing more than advertising.
