Savers Health and Beauty Pulls 15 Fragrances Following Government Safety Alert

Retailer Savers Health and Beauty has issued an urgent recall for 15 designer and celebrity-endorsed fragrances. The move follows an official safety alert from the UK Government and the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) regarding the presence of prohibited chemicals that pose serious health risks to consumers. The recall notice was formally issued on 18 May 2026, with widespread warnings following shortly after.

The recall is centered on the presence of butylphenyl methylpropional, commonly known as BMHCA or Lilial, alongside hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. Both substances are strictly prohibited in cosmetic products under Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, often referred to as 'The Cosmetics Regulation'. According to reports in The Mirror, these chemicals were found in stock sold at Savers, leading to the immediate withdrawal of the products from shelves. Health experts have warned that BMHCA can potentially harm the reproductive system and damage the health of an unborn child, while both chemicals are known to cause skin sensitisation.

A wide variety of luxury and household fragrance brands are impacted by this safety notice. Luxury items include Calvin Klein Encounter (30ml EDT), Calvin Klein CK One (50ml EDT), and Jean Paul Gaultier Classique (50ml EDT). Davidoff fragrances, specifically Cool Water Ladies (30ml EDT) and Hot Water in both 60ml and 110ml sizes, are also on the list. Other high-end products identified by the OPSS include Kenzo Flower (50ml EDT), Thierry Mugler Secret (50ml EDT), and Paul Smith Men (100ml EDT).

Celebrity-branded perfumes have also been flagged in the alert. Rihanna Kiss (100ml EDP) and Beyoncé Rise (30ml EDT) are among those deemed unsafe for use. Additionally, the recall includes French Connection FCUK3 Female (100ml EDT), FCUK Original Her (100ml EDT), and Missguided Babe Power (10ml EDP). Consumer group Which? has shared the safety alert on social media to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the potential danger sitting on their dressing tables.

Savers Health and Beauty has urged customers to stop using the affected perfumes immediately. Those who have purchased any of the listed items are encouraged to return them to their local Savers store to receive a full refund.
