If your kids are obsessed with squash and soft drinks and you find yourself constantly having to stock up, you might have wondered how you can cut down on wasting the family favourite.

Stephanie Palin, 40, a special needs teaching assistant and mum of three from Cheshire, came up with a genius way to make her family’s Robinsons supply last longer.

She bought coffee syrup pumps from Amazon for £4 and fitted them to the squash bottles.

She soon found that her family’s supply of squash was lasting twice as long, saving her money and avoiding waste.

Stephanie told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I have a husband with a visual impairment and three children aged seven, 11 and 18.

“After watching how much squash they were wasting through spillage when making and getting through a silly amount of squash per week, I thought about how I could reduce this.

“First I tried to find a nice pump bottle for it to go in, but they either aren't nice or are glass bottles which aren't safe or food grade.

"I then started looking a temporary measure whilst I continued to look for a nice pump container.

"I looked on Amazon and ebay and thought I would try the Monin pump, so for £4 I bought one pump to see if would fit and it did to the 1.75 or two litre squash bottles, but not the square bottles.

“A solution is to just decant the square bottle squash into Robinsons or Vimto bottles.

"This worked great so I ordered one more so we had two. They work amazingly and you can either wash them by hand or pop them through the dishwasher.”

Stephanie says her family now goes through at least half the amount of squash every week, and that it’s a great way to save money during lockdown.

"It reduces the amount of squash you go through by at least half,” she adds. "Where one bottle wasn't even lasting us one week it's just over two weeks now.

"You can order the Monin pump via Amazon or ebay.

"They seemed to have jumped up a little in price, but I have given the link out to so many people!

"It helps people save money during lockdown, and I also use a similar pump for my cleanser and toner as I just seem to go through it so fast also!”

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Lockdown has been an expensive time for millions of families, so simple, easy and effective money-saving solutions such as Stephanie’s are very welcome!

“This genius solution won’t just save her money, but will also reduce wastage, a very topical issue at the moment.

“The pumps can be bought cheaply online, and will last for years!"

Good solution. As spilling half of the bottle per week was a big waste. And you are also more enviromently friendly, less bottles = less plastic
