Savvy Mum PAINTS Sofa For £17.99, Saving 100s On Buying New Ones

If you’re fed up of your furniture but would rather not shell out hundreds or even thousands of pounds to replace it, you might want to follow in the footsteps of this savvy mum.
Shelley Luton, 51, a mum of one who works for a college, decided to transform her existing brown leather sofas using a chic teal paint rather than forking out for new furniture.
The transformation cost Shelley under £20 and means she has a whole new set of sofas for a fraction of the usual price.
Shelley, who lives in Essex, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I have been watching the Frenchic Facebook page and how people have restyled items in their homes.
"I wanted a colour that people would notice when they came into my kitchen as these sofas are in my kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of the family!
"I used Frenchic paint, and chose the Alfresco range due to its durability. I went for ‘Steel Teal’.
"I used one can of paint and did five coats, and it cost me £17.99.
"I ordered my paint through a stockist who was very supportive and gave me loads of advice, and I also sought advice on Facebook.
"The process was to wash with sugar soap to clean any dirt and grease and then lightly sand.
"I painted directly onto the sofa and waited two hours between layers so that the paint could cure.
"The paint takes two weeks to cure. I also used two coats of finishing coat for extra protection."
Shelley is delighted with the look of her finished sofa, and says the task provided her with a distraction during the lockdown.
"I absolutely love the finished look,” she adds. “It looks modern and it brightens up the kitchen.
"Doing this project during lockdown really supported my mental health - it was really refreshing.
"Having a project to concentrate on helped me get through the lockdown and gave me a goal to work towards.
"It wasn’t very hard convincing my husband as he is also very pleased with the outcome!
"My friend who came over thought that I had bought new sofas and she said the colour looks very classy.
"I was amazed that you could paint a sofa. I had been watching people do similar things on Facebook over a few months, then asked my husband.
"At first he wasn’t convinced because of the colour and I said to him 'trust me it will look great’.
"I’m very pleased with the outcome and it makes my kitchen look more contemporary.
"We feel that we have given the sofas a new lease of life rather than paying hundreds of pounds for new sofas!”
