Aldi Brings Back It's Supermarket Sweep Free Shop - But There's A Catch

- Aldi revives its wild Supermarket Sweep – five-minute trolley dash
- Participants keep all items grabbed – completely free
- Charity CHAS gets matching value donated by Aldi
- Only Scottish stores are eligible – applications now open
- One winner claimed £767 worth of goods, including a double air fryer
- No alcohol, only two of each item, one from Middle Aisle allowed
Aldi is letting shoppers live out their Dale Winton dreams by bringing back its whirlwind Supermarket Sweep challenge – but don’t grab your trolley just yet unless you’re north of the border.
The budget retailer is once again giving lucky customers five frantic minutes to raid the aisles of select Scottish stores, keeping everything they manage to stuff into their trolley – absolutely free. And to sweeten the deal, Aldi will match the value of the haul with a donation to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).
The challenge – first introduced in 2016 – has returned for summer 2025, and applications are now open for several upcoming events in Glasgow, Motherwell, Kilmarnock, and Perth.
However, there are rules: entrants must be over 18, no alcohol is allowed, and there are limits on how many of the same item you can grab – no cheeky stocking up on Middle Aisle air fryers.
In a Reddit AMA, one previous contestant revealed they scooped a whopping £767 worth of groceries in a closed-door dash: “I planned it all out, made a chart... but when it started, I just grabbed stuff semi-randomly.”
Among their loot? Prime rib, whole salmon, and a double air fryer – though they admitted they’re “still figuring out how it works”.
So if you’ve ever wondered how far five minutes and a supermarket trolley can take you, this might be your moment – if you're in Scotland.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk the discount code platform said, "It’s a brilliant blend of fun and charity. Five minutes, a supermarket to yourself, and free shopping? That’s every deal hunter’s dream. Shame it’s only in Scotland – I’d have cleared out the air fryer shelf."

If I did this the shop would probably be a wreck with me going a bit nuts doing it. However that said I only do fairly small shops in Aldi as a lot of stuff is sub par quality to me but in this situation I wouldn't have time to think about that. So I guess I would end up with a lot of stuff I'd have to give away.
