- Aldi joins in with £4.99 Prosecco – perfect mixer for a Spritz

Forget grey skies – summer has landed in the drinks aisle. A high-street supermarket giant has fired the opening shot of the bank holiday booze battle, sending Aperol prices plummeting to a record low. From today, shoppers at Asda can snap up 70cl bottles for just £9.98 – down from £17.08 – a jaw-dropping 40% saving.
For those planning a garden bash or just a cheeky tipple on the sofa, there’s more: one-litre bottles are also discounted to £17.14 until May 24. And no need to faff about with loyalty cards – the deal is open to everyone.
Hana Carter reported in The Sun that Asda isn’t stopping at Aperol. They're also pouring out a deal on the summer classic, Pimm’s. The one-litre bottle now comes in at £9.98, a 26% discount from the usual £13.48.
What’s more, customers picking up Aperol could bag a limited edition reversible bucket hat – ideal for sipping in style, rain or shine.
Meanwhile, Aldi is fizzing into action with a 38% discount on its Prosecco DOCG – down to just £4.99 a bottle until May 25. Described as having “vibrant notes of crisp apple and pear”, it’s the essential mixer for a 3-2-1 Aperol Spritz: three parts Prosecco, two Aperol, and one part soda.
Deals on other wines are also bubbling up, with Aldi’s Portuguese Animus Douro and South African Sauvignon Blanc starting from £3.99. Not bad if you’re stocking up for a soggy weekend indoors.
Despite the typical British forecast (read: umbrellas not suncream), the taste of summer is alive and well in your local supermarket.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk the discount code platform said, "This is the kind of price drop that gets deal hunters buzzing. Aperol rarely dips below a tenner, and the addition of the free hat makes it a summer steal. The timing is perfect – even if the sun doesn’t show up, you can still sip like it did."
