Tesco Crowned Cheapest Petrol Provider as Fuel Prices Jump 3.4%
Tesco has been crowned the cheapest petrol provider in the UK as fuel prices jump 3.4% month-on-month. Research from Petrol Price UK found that across 510 Tesco forecourts, the average price for unleaded was 154.6p and diesel was 171.0p across the UK. This puts it ahead of Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and ASDA.

The price of unleaded fuel has risen 3.4% month-on-month and diesel has jumped 4.1% in the same period according to Gov.uk's Weekly Road Fuel Prices report. Consumer expert Tom Church has warned of a widening regional postcode lottery with the most expensive areas paying 13p per litre more than those in the cheapest. Petrol Price UK used data from the UK Government's Fuel Finder initiative which seeks to provide up-to-date fuel prices to help people save money. It found that County Armagh in Northern Ireland is the cheapest region in the UK with an average unleaded price of 148.1p. Whereas Conwy in Wales is the most expensive region recorded, with unleaded averaging 161.4p per litre. Comparing the prices of 1,570 supermarket forecourts, it was found that that the average prices are: 1. Tesco - Unleaded 154.6p, Diesel 171.0p 2. Sainsbury's - Unleaded 155.6p, Diesel 172.7p 3. Morrisons - Unleaded 156.2p, Diesel 173.5p 4. ASDA - Unleaded 156.5p, Diesel 174.2p

Church added, "Unleaded has increased in price by 16.3 per cent and diesel 22.5 per cent year-on-year. With the average UK car being about 50L, it costs about £77 to fill up with unleaded now."

Tesco definitely the cheapest in my area but I do about 2 fills of momentum for 1 of normal petrol. My car doesn't really benefit that much from high octane fuel in theory but in practice seems more powerful but as a lower Ethanol fuel there are lots of benefits over standard petrol for the engine. I'm a very low mileage driver and Ethanol absorbs more water plus there are additives in the high octane fuel to protect the engine. I've had my car from new about 12 years and its still on the original battery and always starts first time. The only fault I've ever had is the windscreen wiper mechanism detaching which is a known issue. That happened about 4 months ago and was its first fault.
