Tesco Offers £50 Bonus Clubcard Points But Shoppers Have One Major Complaint

- Tesco has relaunched its Clubcard Challenges game, running until March 9.
- Selected customers can complete up to 10 personalised challenges to earn extra points.
- Shoppers could rack up £50 worth of Clubcard points—but there’s a catch.
- Many say the challenges don’t match their usual shopping habits, making them harder to complete.
Tesco has brought back its popular Clubcard Challenges, giving selected members the chance to earn up to £50 in bonus points—but not everyone is happy.
The supermarket has invited eligible Clubcard holders via email or the app to take part in the scheme, which runs until March 9. Participants receive 20 tailored shopping challenges based on their spending habits, but they can only complete up to 10 to earn extra points.
While some shoppers are thrilled at the chance to boost their rewards, others are frustrated. Many have taken to social media to complain that the challenges don’t align with their regular purchases—meaning they’d have to spend extra on items they don’t usually buy just to get the bonus points.
Consumer experts have also warned that while these schemes can be rewarding, they can encourage overspending—so it's worth checking if the challenges actually fit your budget and shopping needs before diving in.

Stoie I doubt its any different to other loyalty schemes. Lidl Plus sends me offers for stuff I would never buy even with this special reduction. I've never bought them before and never will in the future as 10 or 15% still makes them poor value. I had a discount for their more premium chocolate but in the store they were offering their 100g fruit and nut chocolate for 49p at the time which was a great price. The premium chocolate worked out 2 or 3x that per 100g even with the extra discount.

Nobody gives something away for nothing, there's always a catch. They are probably aware that many people shop at 2,3 or even 4 different places to get the best deals and save money. Like we do.

kloddy2001 This is very true, I am not loyal to Any supermarket, I shop around all the time to buy what suits me at the time.

What an absolute con job!! It’s just a mercenary scheme to make people buy more and attract them from the other supermarkets.

Some examples of what people have to buy would be useful and how expensive they are. It could be a great scheme or a rubbish one without knowing the details.

Totally useless. I got the email, and when I clicked on the link I found myself looking at a list I could choose 10 challenges from. But only 1 was something I would buy. A couple were for alcohol (stopped drinking 5 years ago), others were for ultra processed foods (healthy eater), others for very expensive brands I wouldn't buy. It needs to be more tailored to a person's shopping habits.

Every item on the list is something I have never or would never buy, guessing they have nit used the information gathered from my buying history to create ny list,, or have they,,hmmm, by listing items I do not buy the chance of me getting the bonus is slim to nil so they won't be paying out £50 to me....

I rarely shop there unless I need something specific I can't get at Aldi etc. The offers they have for me are 90% processed food which I try to avoid at all costs.

I wrote to Tesco Customer Service and complained about this very issue. They said that the Challenges were based on previous purchases AND what they thought might be of interest to us based on previous purchases. I said that they were wide of the mark with these Challenges and very disappointed.
