Tesco’s ‘Just Add Milk’ Strawberry Matcha Leaves Shoppers Divided

- Matcha goes mainstream with new £3.75 syrup launch
- Just 38p a drink vs £4.50 in cafes – savings stack up
- TikTokers race to grab bottles, but critics say “check the sugar!”
- Could it be the dupe to ditch your iced latte habit?
Tesco has launched a game-changing matcha drink that’s got half of TikTok running to the tea aisle – and the other half raising an eyebrow.
The strawberry matcha concentrate, priced at £3.75 for 10 servings, lets you make café-style drinks at home with nothing more than milk and ice. That’s just 38p a go – far cheaper than your £4.50 iced treat from the high street.
It’s described as a “matcha tea concentrate, strawberry flavour, made with Japanese matcha powder”, but dig into the ingredients and you’ll spot it’s only 2.5% matcha. That’s raised some red flags online.
Content creator Libby Fitzpatrick called it “Tesco new matcha” while pouring the syrup into her glass. One viewer tagged a friend saying “Next time in Tesco,” clearly keen for a strawberry sipping spree. Another added, “I need this.” But not everyone was sweet on the deal. “Check out the sugar, oooooft,” one said, while another blasted: “It looks terrible.”
Some questioned the benefits. “No real advantage over fresh matcha,” claimed one shopper. A few were more forgiving – recognising the fun, affordability, and summer-ready vibes.
In the midst of a cost of living squeeze, this could be a way to keep your cool and save cash at the same time. If you love matcha but hate splashing out on your daily iced fix, this syrup could be your new secret weapon.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk the discount code platform said, "Tesco’s strawberry matcha concentrate is a fun twist on a trendy drink. At under 40p per glass, it’s a clever way to enjoy café-style treats for less."
