Tesco’s New PINK Hot Cross Buns Spark Heated Debate

Image
  • Tesco launches rhubarb & custard hot cross buns – but shoppers are split.
  • The pink-coloured buns cost £1.80 for a pack of four.
  • Some love the retro twist, while others say ‘stop messing with perfection!’
  • Supermarkets continue to release quirky takes on Easter classics.

Tesco has introduced a bold new take on the classic hot cross bun, and it's dividing shoppers. The supermarket giant is now selling rhubarb & custard hot cross buns, featuring a bright pink design and a sweet, fruity twist.

James Flanders reported in The Sun that the buns, priced at £1.80 for a pack of four, contain rhubarb purée, dried cream, and freeze-dried rhubarb – a nostalgic nod to the classic sweetshop flavour.

Reactions on social media have been mixed. Some shoppers are eager to try the new creation, while others believe the traditional spiced bun shouldn’t be tampered with.

💬 "Aldi did rhubarb and custard ones a few years ago – they were my favourite!" said one shopper.

💬 "I'm usually a purist, but I might make an exception for these," another admitted.

💬 "Why do they play around with perfection?" one critic asked.

With supermarkets increasingly launching quirky seasonal twists, this isn’t the first time hot cross buns have received an unexpected makeover – and it certainly won’t be the last!

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: "Supermarkets love experimenting with seasonal treats, and these pink hot cross buns are a prime example. Whether you’re a fan of tradition or love a twist, there’s certainly no shortage of choice this Easter!"

I don't think I will be buying this. Years ago, Tesco gave out free samples of a similar hot cross bun, and it tasted awful. It was too artificial for my liking.

It's a shame a rare Tesco news story is a negative one and injected with another Aldi positive in it "Aldi did rhubarb and custard ones a few years ago – they were my favourite!" said one shopper.

There are literally thousands of additional products available at Tesco Extra stores that you can't get in Aldi being a full range supermarket. You only have to drive to one location to do a full shop and they have a huge amount of stuff that is either cheaper than Aldi or price matched with them. They also source many more products from within the UK meaning less government debt for you because less of a trade deficit. This site has a strangely pro Aldi bias which is extremely harmful to our economy. I think now you have to realise Latestdeals has a strong bias in favour to Aldi for whatever reason. Just look at the news stories, most aren't news stories at all but blatant adverts for Aldi pretending to be news.
