Emma Walker, 31, from Stoke on Trent, wanted to buy her friend a special present for her birthday, but being on maternity leave with her three month old daughter, was on a tight budget.

Emma decided to make a gorgeous hamper of goodies from Poundland for her friend. The hamper cost just £10 to make, but looks like it cost three times more.

Emma told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: “I've shopped at Poundland for a few years now and I keep an eye on the Poundland Facebook page for new items that come into store.

"I'm currently on maternity leave so I don't have much money for presents, but as it was my friend's 30th birthday I wanted to do something special for her.

"I already knew of a few items I wanted to get her but for the rest I wandered around the store and found more amazing items that were all along the same pink colour scheme so I decided to create a hamper for her.

"I bought some Love Heart wax melts, air freshener, room diffuser, some pretty ceramic coasters that say 'you are loved', a bottle of bubble bath that looks like champagne, a wine glass that has beautiful pink frosting, a candle that smells of Prosecco, an ornament that says XOXO and some sweets to finish it off.

"I then bought a basket from the home section to display them all in. All together with the basket it cost me just £10!”

Emma is delighted with the look of her homemade hamper, especially considering she was on such a tight budget.

"I think it looks like it cost a lot more than £10, which is the look I was going for. I'm really pleased with it and the fact it didn't break my limited budget is a bonus,” Emma adds.

"I haven't given it to my friend yet as she has been on holiday for her birthday but I hope she will love it.

"If people want to create something like this, Poundland is a great place to get a wide range of items that make up a great gift.

“Also, trying to stick to a theme like a colour makes the present look really pretty.”

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Buying a ready made hamper always comes with a huge premium. If you, like Emma, want to gift someone a hamper, save yourself a ton of cash by building it yourself. Best of all, your friend will have something truly personalised with things they love, and will have a hamper that is totally unique.”
