Meat-Free is Healthy
Best savings on all Quorn products!

Quorn is a meat substitute product that is sold in Europe. This food product originated in the UK and is available in 19 other countries. Quorn is sold as both meat substitute and cooking ingredient. It is used in a variety of prepackaged meals.

The brand was introduced by Marlow Foods in 1985. It is a joint venture between Imperial Chemical Industries and Rank Hovis McDougall. Today, the company is owned by Monde Nissin Corporation.

Marlow Foods became a part of the Zeneca group which later became AstraZeneca. The company then sold Marlow Foods in 2003 including its Quorn business, patents, and trademark to Montagu Private Equity. It was then sold in 2005 to Premier Foods.

All Quorn food products contain an ingredient called mycoprotein. This ingredient came from the Fusarium venenatum fungus. It is grown by means of fermentation. Fungus culture is very important in most Quorn products.

The fungus culture is dried and it is mixed with egg albumen that acts as a binding ingredient. It is then adjusted to the desired texture. After which, it is pressed and moulded into various forms. There is also a vegan formulation available that uses potato protein as its binding ingredient instead of egg albumen.
