I have never been the type of traveller to sit around a pool or while away the hours on the beach, I am all about discovering new places and grabbing fresh experiences with both hands.
Which was how I stumbled upon Viator.com. I had a five day break booked to Dubrovnik, Croatia; and although there appeared to be plenty to occupy my time in the immediate vicinity, I was also keen to visit another country within a minibus ride.
The site is easy to navigate, you simply input where you are staying, and the site returns a plethora of experiences, day trips and transfers to peruse.
I opted for a day trip into Bosnia and Herzegovina - somewhere that interested me. I made sure that the trip was available on the day I had free, confirmed that the firm running the trip would pick up from my hotel and simply parted with the £60 required to secure my place.
As well as a confirmation from Viator I also received communication from the tour company running the trip, confirming my pick up time and place.
And booking a trip with Viator really is that simple; Since that successful expedition to Mostar in Bosnia, I have booked six further trips and experiences with them. Excursions as diverse as the Wieliczka Salt Mines and Aushcwitz concentration camps in Poland, to Niagara Falls on both the Canadian and American sides. All well run, professionally handled and expertly guided tours.
The Viator refund and cancellation process is also second to none.
In April 2020 I was due to visit a bear sanctuary and Transylvanian Castle in Romania. Unfortunately a worldwide pandemic curtailed virtually all travel, which left me no option but to cancel this much anticipated day trip.
I simply navigated to "My Bookings" on the Viator website, clicked cancel next to the trip, and waited.
Within a week I received a full refund to my original payment method, no hassle or having to chase the company.
And this just underlines to me what a well run and competent site Viator is - we often see the true colours of companies when things don't go as planned, and Viator stepped up with a prompt refund and fine customer relations.
Ensuring that I will be returning to their site for further expedition booking the next time I travel.
