Why Are There so Many Resurrected Old Posts on Page 1 Chat?
Other
I have often gone back to an old post not wishing to post a duplicate, but at time of writing there are 16 old chats on page one.
Most of them have been 'brought back' by a new member which is strange as plenty to comment on in current topics.
Please don't misunderstand me, I am not being rude or critical just wondering, as many of the old posts are posted by the same person, who is an older member. I would love to know the reasoning behind this as it pushes back newer topics that may not get a fair airing.
Does anyone else find this strange or am I overthinking it?
If you comment on your own post I think it comes back to top again. So if your needing your points or just needy then maybe thatβs why.
eyeballkerry no, it is someone who joined this month who has commented (mainly on one older members post). You can comment on any post to earn your points so can't help wondering why it is one particular members posts.
Not sure if I am being clear but it is a person commenting on another person's posts. It does not give the OP any extra points so can't understand the reasoning behind it.
Lynibis I noticed this too but had a 'whatever' moment. The only thing that it has made very clear, and this will not be a popular comment, is that not all LD team members come back to topics they started. There are 3 that always come back and interact - E/J/K but, sadly, there are some that use it as a survey opportunity and and never return.
sunny101 I must admit on most of the original topics the OP has rarely contributed, I stopped counting after finding only 1 out of 5 with replies. I understood that the new rules state that you do not get the points unless you reply to at least one comment out of at least four. But I am not sure when the new rules came in.
I have also noticed that there are a lot of old chats that have been appearing on the first page. I also wondered why they were appearing.
Strange , said member who is commenting on most of the historic posts hasn't added a comment to this current one yet ! The mystery deepens ?
Why does it matter if people want to comment on old posts, maybe they find them more interesting than the newer ones..
Lynibis person could just be scrolling and reading title, once they have wrote something the topic comes to page 1 again and others comment what are new.
if your suggesting someone opened another account to start commenting on their own old posts, just say that or report them.
seems a bit sad to myself.
It must be quite a challenge to find so many old posts, especially being a new member, that you want to comment on?!
tumblespots definitely, it usually takes some time for new (?) members to find their way around.
I'm guilty of this. I don't see the point of creating a new Chat topic if the subject has already been discussed in the past. Often multiple times, for example Netflix related questions. If someone creates a new Netflix thread it's still going to push other posts further down the list. From my perspective a Chat topic doesn't become irrelevant just because it was posted over a year ago.
ACR I agree with you - I just wish it was easier to 'follow' a thread rather than try to remember the title wording. (you know we all go off at tangents sometimes and the title doesn't always represent the conversation) Considering the recent 'revivals' were from a year ago, I admit it made me chuckle thinking about how laborious the searching had to be.
ACR I feel you have totally misunderstood my thinking here. As I said I often go back to old topics to avoid posting a duplicate as we all get tired of repeats. But you need to think outside the box (or between the lines) to see what I am thinking in this particular instance. How easy is it for a new member to seek out one person's topics in the thousands posted?
nina090976 It could be better if, when you got a list of posts under a heading, the year of posting was added to the month shown, then you could tell how recent the post was without having to open too many similar posts to find the one you were looking for.
Is the topic is still relevant why would anyone have a problem with it? It's called 'Chat' for a reason.....
Plus it gets others talking on the posts again....
Not very welcoming for new comers who might be looking through the chats if people think it is weird or strange... Odd to be on Chats and not comment......
emmajd I am interested to know why you only chose mainly one person's topics when there are thousands. That is not random but searched for. But hey ho, as I said nothing wrong with it, I do it myself rather than duplicate. When you have been a member for over 5 years and made over 12,000 comments you can't help but spot anomalies and wonder how they come about.
Personally I wish there was an easier way of following topics because it is very hard to find one if you can't remember the title as search is no good then. It is would be easier if you could search all your own topics (or someone else's) by name when you want to go back to it as they move on very quickly.
emmajd Try not to worry about it Emma. I, and perhaps some others, prefer posters who look for something worth replying to than those who only select from those on page one, especially when some of the DROSS on page one has relegated some postings, never to be seen again, by those who never venture beyond the first page.
A thing that could be improved by LD is the date of the opening post and replies could be made clearer so people were aware that postings brought to the surface were not wrongly thought to be new. On my laptop they are too small to be read and even the type is much feinter than other print - it's almost as if it's designed so people can't see it,
I tried to start a new chat this morning but powers that must be honoured took it down referring me to one that started months ago. This is why they are resurrected.
Yes I noticed that to I thought it was just because someone put a new comment on it but I don't have a clue about it lol
