Prunus 'Kojo-no-mai' or Fuji Cherry as it is commonly known, is a very pretty and delicate looking deciduous shrub - yet it is tough, hardy and easy to grow. The long, wiry twigs burst into life in late winter and early spring when the crimson buds open to display stunning pale flowers. The young leaves are long, pale green and turn darker as they mature. In Autumn, they take on glorious shades of red and orange and create a stunning display before they drop for Winter.
For the autumn colour they are worth buying alone, for the glorious display of spring blossom, they are simply stunning. When these fade the unusual tracery of twisting branches provides a further element of interest. Kojo-no-mai has a compact, rounded shape and a gently spreading habit, which makes it an excellent shrub for the smaller garden or that small space you may have in mind.
